About:
Nebraskans for Educational Excellence is a non-partisan, grassroots organization committed to educational excellence for all students in Nebraska's public schools. A small group of dedicated individuals came together in Fall 2021 concerned about disregard for student health and safety, and an increase in legislative and district-level policies that attack evidenced-based education and inclusivity and well-being for all students. In response, we wanted to form an advocacy group that could provide a voice for the thousands of Nebraskans who support public schools, who support science, who support diversity, equity, and inclusion, and age-appropriate health standards in schools.
Nebraskans For Educational Excellence Platform:
We believe that public education is for all students regardless of race, gender, ability, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, immigration status, or socioeconomic status, and we believe all students deserve a school environment where they are welcomed and valued.
We believe that education is best promoted and students flourish when parents, teachers and staff, administrators, and elected and appointed officials collaborate with recognized experts in the field and use evidence-based practices to guide decision making.
We believe that teaching an accurate depiction of American history, which includes the experiences and contributions of all Americans, is a fundamental step in upholding American values of justice, fairness, and liberty for all.
We believe that students have the right to learn from a factual, evidence-based curriculum that includes global issues and perspectives across all content areas.
We believe that students have a right to learn age-appropriate, evidence-based information about health, including reproductive health, sexual orientation, gender identity, and social-emotional well-being.
We believe in local control in our public schools, and school board members who act for the good of the community without undue influence by partisan politics.
We believe that education can only be successful when the physical and mental health and well-being of both students and school staff are respected and promoted. In order to provide the best education possible, we support evidence-based practices that promote the health and well-being of all students and educators, including those with particular health needs or disabilities, and policies that take student and teacher health into account when making decisions about education.
We believe in completely funding public schools and ensuring public funds are directed to public schools and not diverted to private schools that are not required to educate all students.
